Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field, influenced by various fields and sources. Biomedical engineers are currently researching methods of creating such organs. Biomedical engineers may also develop devices and technologies for consumer use, such as physical therapy devices, which may be governed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Biomedical engineers combine sound knowledge of engineering and biological science, and therefore tend to have a bachelors of science and advanced degrees from major universities, who are now improving their biomedical engineering curriculum because interest in the field is increasing. Biomedical engineers often simply possess a university degree as their qualification. Biomedical engineering is regulated in some countries, such as Australia, but registration is typically only recommended and not required.
A biomedical technician should have technical aptitude for working on a variety of electronic equipment. Since biomedical equipment technicians are expected to repair equipment used by others, they must also be able to communicate and work with them. The biomedical equipment technician is often the person called upon to repair equipment being used for life support.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (2007-2008), growth in the biomedical electronics field will continue its growth at the present pace. Opportunities exist for biomedical equipment technicians in hospitals as junior-level biomedical equipment technicians, service maintenance organizations, and equipment manufacturers.
Teams of researchers with biomedical and clinical backgrounds are needed to focus their intellectual talents on solving these health disparities. BFS scientists, along with other scientists, physicians and other researchers apart of the BFS database main mission is to encourage and motivate students to seek career paths which lead to PhDs, MDs, and MD PhDs in biomedical and clinical sciences.

Hip replacements, artificial valves for hearts, and high technology devices to prevent strokes due to aneurysms are all designed and developed by mechanical biomedical engineers. As a student in the biomedical engineering option, you will have the opportunity to take courses from and do research with some of the best biomedical engineers in the country.
